Nuages, (pronounced: noo-aj), is a Gypsy Jazz quartet with R&B stylings. Their sound is a blend of vibrant energy and a bit of wistful romance. Doors open at 7:00 PM. A reception with refreshments will follow.
Based in Bellingham, Nuages is a band dedicated to performing in the Manouche/Gypsy Jazz tradition. They founded Nuages in 2011 with an inspiration of the music of Django Reinhardt in mind. The group pays homage to Django by performing several of his compositions. Nuages deviates from the traditional hot club quintet though, by incorporating saxophone, with guitars and bass.
They combine both traditional and modern jazz concepts in their music, including Reinhardt’s works, as well as material from the Modern Jazz Quartet, Van Morrison and their own original compositions.
“Our sound includes Hot Swing, French Chanteuse, Brazilian Samba and elements of West Coast Cool,” says musical director and saxophonist Michael–Paul Gurule, of Nuages.
Suggested Donation for Nuages: $15 at the door, $25 for the entire family. Proceeds benefit Parish Activities Program.
This is a great opportunity to hear exceptional local musicians play for the Lummi Island community, in a great hall, in a concert setting! As always, all are invited!
