A Summer of Music at Sculpture Woods

Western Washington University’s College of Fine & Performing Arts is pleased to present live musical performances by faculty and student members this summer at Sculpture Woods. The events are free and open to the public, and we hope you’ll join us for an afternoon of wonderful music and refreshments. We look forward to welcoming and performing for our island neighbors.

WWU guitar instructor Eli Schille-Hudson presents an afternoon of beautiful guitar music from all over the world. Musical gems from the baroque, Latin America, and local Northwest composers reflect the variety and color of the gorgeous natural surroundings at Sculpture Woods.

Dreams and More, an Afternoon of African American Art Song
Saturday August 3, 1-2pm

WWU Director of Voice Studies Dr. Richard L. Hodges and Music Department Chair Tim Fitzpatrick presents an afternoon of African American Art Song entitled Dreams and More. These works will reflect on dreams and other concepts about life and death based on the poetry of Langston Hughes, Paul Laurence Dunbar and More. The music of these composers will help transport us as we visually are engaged by the beauty of the Sculpture Woods.

Kevin Woods and Cat Toren, Jazz Trumpet and Piano
Saturday September 7, 12-2pm

Trumpet player Kevin Woods and pianist Cat Toren present a captivating duo performance, blending jazz repertoire with original compositions and improvisations. With critically acclaimed albums and a strong presence in the national jazz and creative music scene, these accomplished musicians will deliver a beautiful set of music at Sculpture Woods.
